The Mind Palace of the Storm Guardian

Last night, I went to the A New World concert in Colburn School, Los Angeles. It was my second A New World concert and I love these because these were always fresh, intimate and surprising. Eric Roth and the New World players did a really fantastic performance which I enjoyed every second of, but there was one standout moment from the night that will stay with me for a long time, if not forever.

Eric Roth (second from left) and the New World players performing the A New World concert in Colburn School, Los Angeles.

It was when Eric Roth suddenly took the mic and started singing along with the orchestra. I must admit, I didn't know what song it was and at first I thought it was something from FFXIV. After asking some friends (thanks, Dan!) I learned that the song was The Promise from FFXIII.

I then found a cover by Pealeaf which I will link below and I just can't stop listening and looping to this simple song (the orchestra performed the full version of the song, not just the part with the lyrics). The song feels very timely right now, with war raging everwhere even as the concert happened, with the world seemingly crumbling around us, this feels like a prayer for the broken world so that it might find peace and be united once again.

Yes, I know that the world might actually have never been united in its long history, but one can only hope. And like this song, make a wish, so that it might someday come true, that one day, peace shall finally reign.

The Promise from Final Fantasy XIII. Cover by Pealeaf.

Make my wish come true
Let darkness fade to light
Show me there's still hope
Show me it's not over
Battles we can win
Our struggle lies within
Will we live to greet the dawn?

Love will not leave you
Hate will not heal you
Promise me one day that peace shall reign
